The Distracted Truck Driver

Here’s something I forgot to tell you…I think we caused a small car accident! Someone had a bad day 😫

This happened back in Cambodia and we were cycling along a road that looked just like the video; it may have even been that exact road actually.

We were riding early, maybe 06.30, children were driving scooters to school – as you do in Cambodia 🫣😆 I think I started this video hoping to catch a student on a scooter but it didn’t happen!

Anyway, as you know, Cambodians *love* to see tourists, perhaps more than any country we’ve visited.

We cycled past a building and a car park. In the car park there was a big truck manoeuvring around into a car…

…at least thats what he was supposed to be doing.

The truck had loads of room to get around the car, but he was not paying attention – or as I suspect – paying too much attention to the interesting looking bikes with western cyclists in the middle of a Cambodian village.

Despite his colleagues’ cries, the driver keeps driving at and into the parked car. As I cycled past I saw the bumper fall and the car light get crushed 😫😫

As we cycled, I asked Stew if he also saw it; he was just behind me, and he said he did. He also has the feeling the driver wasnt looking properly as he was distracted by us 😩

In England, the car would be written off or would need body work to stay on the road. But we suspect the car was alright enough to drive in Cambodia 😬

He may not have been looking at us but it’s a bit coincidental.
