Cycle touring is a way of travel that requires absolutely no expectations.

But I don’t seem to learn that 🫠

Days you expect to be dull can turn out pretty great, like today. Days you expect to be good can turn out not so good.

The thing is, every day you cycle tour you ride out into the unknown. There are so many variables.

Will you feel strong today? Or is the bike going to feel heavy? How’s the weather? Your mental resilience can fluctuate making some days irrationally harder than others. Some plans fall by the wayside since life has other ideas. And sometimes the road reveals pleasures you never expected, be it the journey itself, the views or simple wave – maybe even a gift – from the locals.

You just don’t know what will unfold and that’s what makes cycle touring special.

Honestly, if you’re thinking about cycle touring, give it a go. And don’t overthink it. Following accounts doing big tours can make it feel overwhelming but sometimes a cycle tour is just a short ride to the next town, an overnight stay and back again. We do plenty of those.
