Goodbye To My Garmin

I took this video back in Malaysia showing you how the humidity was rusting the bikes and damaging my Garmin.

This Garmin watch is my pride and joy. I bought it about five years ago with a bonus from work and it was something I wanted for years before but was waiting until I could afford it. It’s always felt like such a special purchase!

After five years of service, it broke in Malaysia.

I heard a rattling, like a bracelet on my wrist, and looked down to see that the watch face was dangling off the watch. We think the heat had melted the glue.

I fixed it up with superglue which held the watch perfectly in place, but when we rode from Singapore to the coast it rained *all day*. I didn’t even think that the water would get into the watch with my shoddy DIY repair.

We got to the end of the Singaore coast and the watch DIED. Nooooo.

I didn’t want the watch to die at all, but dying on THE FINAL RIDE of South East Asia was such a blow. I couldn’t get the data off the watch.

I left it on charge and in the window hoping it would dry out and it did! But only enough for me to get the data onto Strava. We were so happy about that.

In Perth, I replaced my much loved, Garmin 735XT with the Garmin Forerunner 245. The 735 is no longer available 🙁

In fairness, the Garmin served me well.

Five years of service.

Daily use for 14 months.

Freezing conditions in China.

Intense heat across the middle eastern desert.

It’s even been swimming with me in the pool and in wild waters.

Sorry if this post reads like an ad for a Garmin watch (lol), but it’s always meant such a lot to me!
