Adapting To Australia
We sat down, on the side of a road, dunkin HobNobs into a black cup of tea that we’d brewed up on the side of the road, roughly 35 miles in both directions from two towns.
‘It’s mad how fast the trip can change with the weather and the country,’ said Stew.
‘And how fast we’re able to adapt!’ I agreed.
No matter how much you plan a cycle tour, what awaits you, will always surprise you. And, in many ways, you’re barely in control of how your adventure changes.
The nice thing about the weather in Aus is that we can enjoy the ride a bit more and roadside picnics are back because, to be honest, it’s the only way we can afford to eat here. Plus, there’s barely shops on route anyway.
In Asia we sought air con in 7/11 and in Aus we find ourselves stopping so regularly to add or remove waterproof jackets and trousers, it slows us down!
We’ve gone from very comfortable beds to waking up in puddles as the rain has lashed down and even our air mattresses have started to mold!
The cool temps of Aus meant we actually took the time to set up the camera to get a rare shot of the two of us. The baking sun in SEA was too much to even think about setting up a camera, cycling past it, then back again to pick it up 😁
It’s fun to be in Australia and although it’s had it’s challenges already I’m so glad we’re here.

Can’t help but wonder where and how you are? Do hope the map is correct and you are in Pt Augusta.
I’m looking forward to your next post and do hope your Aussie experiences are predominantly good 😊
I do hope you’re not riding down the main highway to Adelaide. There are two alternatives…down through the York Peninsula or over the range and down via Clare and the Barossa. Travel safely.
Catching up on comments Judith! I know you know we’re nice and safe now xxx
