Wet Days And Wet Camps

We put our sleeping mats away wet and now they’re a bit mouldy 😲

I don’t even know how they got damp/wet, but I sure am kicking myself now. It’s not too bad and hopefully it won’t get worse. We have of course, thoroughly dried them out and cleaned them now. Let’s hope for the best.

On route to Albany, we ended up having a rather wet camp. Luckily, by the the time we got to Denmark (on route), the sun was shining bright enough that we could pitch our tent. If we could just get one more camp in the budget would be looking good. So, we set up camp to suffer one more time.

What we didn’t know though, was that it was set to rain that night…a lot.

When the rain started to come, it wasn’t too bad, and we found some comfort in the camp kitchen at the camp site. It was actally a lovely evening in there, talking about adventures and sharing our stories with the group! 😁

As the sun went down, the crowd in the camp kitchen reduced as they returned to their cosy vans. Stew and I hid out for a bit longer, drinking tea and cluctching water bottles.

Just as we were ready to return to the tent, someone walked in and we had a chat. It turned out he was the site manager and he wanted to get us out of the rain and cold for one night.

He asked us to follow us, said he couldn’t give us a cabin (a room with a bed you’d pay for) but he said he could get us out the rain. He offered us this hall where we could hang up all our stuff to dry and sleep under a roof.

Of course, we said YES!

With this amazing offer our tent could dry from the night before and we would be able to camp again the next night since everything would be dry. This helped our budget a lot.
