Paul And Tracy

After five years we finally got to meet Paul and Tracy.

We left West Perth and cycled along perfect cycle paths for a full fifty miles. We enjoyed the cool air and blue skies…that was until the rain started and we stopped to put rain jackets on for the first time since we left the U.K.

We were in good spirits and excited to meet Paul who was the first person to ever to offer us a place to stay on the trip. Paul is connected to Shropshire and some of his family live in my hometown. His relative used to work with my mum 😁

Paul had read about our trip before we left, in the Shropshire Star. He reached out on our website; the first contact form submission we ever received and it was so exciting 😁 As it happens, we were cycling right near Paul’s home.

When we returned on the trip after covid I really wanted to stay with Paul as it felt like Paul was part of the trip before even day one. When we got to Australia, about five years after his offer, I didn’t feel right sending him a message on Facebook and asking if it was still ok! Lucky for us, when Paul saw we were travelling again and making tracks to Perth he reached out a second time.

That evening, we had BBQ’d steaks with veggies and gravy and a splash of wine. We shared travel stories as Paul and Tracy have done a lot. We heard all about their romance that started off as pen pals from Aus to Scotland! How cool is that?

The next day, we changed our route, opting for a shorter distance so we could go on a walk together as Paul and Tracey knew some perfect wildlife spots where we would see wild kangaroo for the first time – and guess what else – DOLPHINS! 🐬 We never expected such a blessing!

In Mandurah, there were huge wooden giants that we went to visit. They’re part of a trail and you can find each art structure on the walk. The wooden giants are created by Thomas Dambo, the world’s leading recycle artist and they are huge and very impressive!

The whole evening and morning was perfect.💙
