The Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
And we did it! We rode up to The Cameron Highlands, 6500 feet (2000 metres) of elevation in about 45 miles (72km).
The grade of the hill was actually not too bad at all, but it is fairly consistent so it’s a proper grind.
Some of the views are beautiful and hearing the wildlife was just incredible for me.
I will say though, I didn’t *love* the bike ride and that’s not a reflection on how hard it was. It’s the sort of hill that I think would be more fulfilling on a motorbike, but that is, of course, a matter of opinion. With the road sides being so “jungly” you don’t get a lot of views but those that you do, as you can see in the pictures, are gorgeous.
We didn’t know what we were riding into, but at the very top of the hill everything is quite commoditised which truly is the last thing I expected. I think I would’ve guessed small, quaint villages.
Quite the opposite, there’s amusements/arcades, McDonald’s and tonnes of hotels. It would be a really fun place to take the family, for sure. It does explain why the road was quite busy, but safe-feeling on the way up.
A proper challenge, a type two fun day.
Recommend to a friend? Yeah, I think I would!
Ride it a second time? Not in this lifetime 😉
Saying that, ask me again tomorrow when I’m a day away from the climb and have enjoyed the much-earned 30 miles of downhill 🚵🏻♀️🚵♂️
