Malaysia’s West Coast

We’ve been enjoying some of Malaysia’s west coast and figuring out what to do with our trip.

We contemplated riding the east coast and even the option to ride Indonesia.

In the end we decided we’d head to Aus as planned.

A long term cycle tour is always about balancing the adventure with time and budget.

So…

WE BOOKED OUR FLIGHTS TO AUSTRALIA! 🦘🌏🇦🇺

We fly from Singapore on the 15th June. Honestly, I cannot believe it’s here already. I’ll write some thoughts on finishing SEA soon!

Before we fly we need to:

– go through our luggage and get it as light as possible. We’ll discard anything that isn’t totally essential. (Even on a minimalist cycle tour you hoard crap 🤦🏽‍♀️🙄)

– get our bikes and kit sparkling clean.

Australia’s border control is very careful about biosecurity.

Rightfully, they don’t want pests or disease that could damage their native plants and wildlife so an ounce of dirt or grass is not welcomed. We will scrub everything clean before departure. We’ll do as much as we can Malaysia side as Singapore is going to cost probably minimum £60-£70/day and that’s if we are very careful.

I never thought I’d say this travelling to Aus, but I CANNOT WAIT to be cold. I bet that doesn’t last long once I am there and I do remind myself of that. Right now Perth is a comfortable 18 degrees and 49% humidity compared to Malaysia’s 28 degrees and 84% humidity. 🥵

I think of Australia as the 4th section after Europe, Central Asia and South East Asia.
