Surfshark is a Good Choice for Travellers: Our Experience Travelling Europe

Stew and I have now travelled slowly across 32 countries. We’ve worked on route. Along the way, we’ve tried several UK VPNs and recently tried Surfshark while in Europe.

I started looking for a new VPN when my current one started disconnecting and then struggling to reconnect. The disconnection and reconnection were a real problem when I was trying to work. It was frustrating and looked unprofessional when I was in a meeting with clients.

I needed something more reliable, and Surfshark was exactly that.

You can trust us. We only review items we use on long-distance cycle trips or hikes. Or items that made the shortlist for our trip's kit list; all items were heavily researched by us.

Try Surfshark VPN.

Our Experience with Surfshark VPN while Traveling in Europe

I started using Surfshark in France for work and internet browsing. As aforementioned, I loved how stable the connection was.

The nice thing about Surfshark VPN for travellers is that you can use it on multiple devices at no extra cost. I had it set up on my phone and my desktop. The functionality is so easy. For the phone, you switch the VPN on within the app, and then, as long as you don’t disconnect, the VPN will automatically connect as you connect to new Wi-Fi networks, ideal for travellers who are always moving around.

Stew and I cycle around the world, so we're always connecting and disconnecting when we’re using 4G because we hit the odd spot where the data isn't available. This wasn’t a problem for Surfshark. I have had other VPNs where the reconnection just doesn’t happen automatically, so this is a real win for me.

Why Surfshark is a Good Choice for Travellers

Reliable connection

I know I keep mentioning the reliable connection, but it really was a game-changer for me. Surfshark excels in providing high-speed and stable VPN connections. A reliable connection enhances the experience of taking meetings, streaming, and browsing.

How the reliable connection helped us

Maintaining my professional responsibilities while travelling is crucial for me. Before we embarked on a cycle trip around the world, I actually expected to lose my clients, but I didn’t. I kept all of them and gained some! Truly, a reliable VPN is a key part of this. I was able to join international meetings without any concerns related to Surfshark.

Access to restricted content

I must admit, I didn’t use Surfshark to access any content that wasn’t already available to me, simply because I didn’t have a need to, but for those who are travelling and want to watch their favourite shows, Surfshark helps bypass restrictions.

Secure public WiFi networks.

Connecting to public WiFi with a VPN is best practice whether you're travelling or in your favourite coffee shop down the road from home.

You absolutely should be using a VPN if you’re using public WiFi, especially if you’re handling sensitive data (logging into accounts, doing your banking, etc.)

How the VPN helped us connect to public WiFi

When we’re travelling, we almost exclusively log into public WiFi networks, so a VPN is a must.

Stew is a developer who would never access public WiFi without a VPN. Every time we logged in to any WiFi, we did so with a VPN.

Key Features of Surfshark VPN for Travellers

Multidevice Support

We cycle around the world, but we’re still carrying six devices. I know it’s excessive, but we ended up lugging two spare (and part-broken) mobile phones, plus the two mobile phones we actually use and two laptops.

Since we carry multiple devices, it helps to know we can connect to all of them at any time and simultaneously.

24/7 support

From my experience, the chances of needing any support from Surfshark are unlikely. However, as a traveller visiting a range of time zones, the 24/7 support provides real peace of mind. Surfshark offers 24/7 customer support no matter your time zone.

I had to take a 1 a.m. meeting when we were in Australia, and I would’ve loved to know that Surfshark was available even then!

A VPN is not just for travelling.

Look, using a VPN isn't just essential for travelling; it's also best practice and sensible for everyday internet security and privacy.

As I said before, as a web developer, Stew understands the importance of protecting sensitive data. He would never log into the internet using public WiFi without the protection of a VPN and has since taught me to do the same.

Now I’ve used Surfshark I’ll be taking it home with me to use every time I’m connected to the internet.
