Moving North

We left Wellington and rolled onto a cycle path that took us a FULL 50 miles all the way to Otaki! We were both amazed and thrilled! It’s always nice to be off the roadside and along the peaceful paths.

We stayed with a warmshowers (check out the cute red building/cabin.)

Jonathon who hosted us was a teacher. He joined Warmshowers after a friend of his did a cycle trip and told him about the hospitality. We had a cosy room for a night, a fireplace in the living room and the lovely exchange of stories between strangers.

It’s amazing how generous people are with their spaces on Warmshowers. We cooked a meal in Jonathon’s kitchen and he left us a key the next morning. He went to work and allowed us to stay as long as we liked. We asked Jonathon for just one night but he would’ve happily had us longer.

Warmshowers really is the best. We’ve met so many people via the app and loved hosting when we were in the UK. I can’t wait to get back to it.

After Otaki we cycled to a small place called Bulls which takes its name very seriously: Bulls are everywhere! There are statues and posters throughout the town and they really play on the name 🐂
