Mount Maunganui
By the time we got to Tauranga, Stew was still under the weather and I was still going strong! Though I’m still hoping to avoid that cold.
We spent one day hunkered down in an AirBnB and the second exploring Tauranga and specifically Mount Maunganui.
Mount Maunganui is a short hike, just over a mile and fairly steep reaching 232 metres.
It was a hot day and Stew did well to get up despite his cold.
It was so worth the hike up! Very beautiful and a nice walk. At the top you’ve got gorgeous views of the beaches, the ocean and Tauranga.
We took pictures as you can see here, but have a Google of ‘Mount Maunganui’ and check it out, it looks so cool.

On the subject of hiking, do you know what we’ve noticed on this phase of our trip? Because we’re moving slower and taking more days off so that we can work, we’re much less tired.
I feel a lot fitter for walking and hiking.
On the first trip we were both just exhausted and we actually lost our walking fitness almost entirely; at least, that’s what it felt like. We were good for cycling and not much else, even walking around towns was exhausting.
We don’t feel like that this time around and its nice to have a little more energy in the bank for days like this.
