Judith And Doug
We planned to ride from Adelaide to our meet point with Judith and Doug over two days. Our plan was to meet them for lunch on day two.
But another stonkin’ tail wind meant we cycled an easy 63 miles on day one.
We arrived late in the day so booked into a cabin at a campsite.
The next morning I looked on the map so we could cycle to the meet point with Judith. We were only right outside it! What are the chances?!
A big day yesterday and a short day today, plus. another strong tailer, meant we could fully relax into our 2.5 hour lunch date with Judith and Doug. We felt at peace and very present.
We had never seen them, literally had no idea what they looked like, but when I saw a couple eyeing up our bikes, I thought, “that must be them.”
Lunch was an absolute dream, to be honest. By now Stew and I have met a lot of strangers, some on route, some off the internet and some meetings come easier than others. With Judith and Doug it was like we’d known them forever. The way we chatted and got on you’d never believe we were strangers and two couples from different generations.
Judith and Doug kindly bought us lunch and gave us a cycling jersey from the local team; we’re still wearing that now.
We had a lovely, lovely lunch together and an unforgettable pudding. I ordered the pavlova for dessert and since it was Judith’s fave, we decided to share. It’s a good job we did because it was HUGE and generously topped with fruit and cream. They must’ve known it was a very special occasion 🥰
Meeting people on the trip is really what makes it.
We talk about the people all the time.
It can really be bittersweet sometimes.
So sweet for obvious reasons but with the benefit of hindsight Stew and I would’ve stayed around for a day or two to enjoy Judith’s and Doug’s company longer.
Every wonderful person you meet is someone you have to say goodbye to and at opposite sides of the globe it is certainly difficult sometimes. But, what a blessing to meet two beautiful people so spontaneously. ❤
Judith caught some pics of us leaving on a ferry, so I added them here as it’s rare to get us both in a picture! 😁

What an absolutely great blog … loved reading our meeting from your point of view. We felt exactly the same about you two, and still do, we wish we could do it all over again and you could have lingered longer. We’re still talking about it!!! One of our best days♥️🌹 Love to you both xx
