Exploring Rio

When we got our bike boxes, Felipe looked at the forecast. He was giving us tips for the city.

“There’s a lot of cloud and rain.” He reported, “oh wait! Sunday! Sunday, it’s beautiful!”

We exchanged awkward glances, “we go home on Sunday morning” 😁

Rio De Janeiro had a surprise up its sleeve, though.

Gorgeous, gorgeous sun on Saturday all day long. Saturday was the first time we’d seen the world famous beach, Copacabana with a blue sky, and oh wow, didn’t it make a difference.

On the sunniest day of the trip we made our way to Sugarloaf mountain. Its costs a fair bit at $30 and we were in two minds on whether to bother.

We were very glad we did!

Sugarloaf Mountain is a fab way to see the city. It was the one thing that really made me appreciate Copacabana and why it is so famous. The mix of city, sea, and mountains is quite unlike anything I’ve seen.

I really warmed to Rio up there. The sun probably helped a lot 😅

To get to Sugarloaf Mountain, you take two cable carts to the top of a mountain, though we called them “islands” 😅 on each island, there’s cafes, stores, and beautiful views.

We hung around quite sometime. In fact, we’d arrived sometime in the morning and were shocked to find we left after 3 pm.

From sugarloaf mountain you see the city scape, including a perspectively small Christo. That was cool!

In fact, if you had to go to one, Christo or Sugarloaf, I’d recommend Sugarloaf because the cityscape with Christ the Redeemer is very Rio!
