Another Cold Night In A Campsite
Lots of Aussies told us we were crossing the country at the right time of year. And to be fair, they were right.
Even in winter it did get very hot across the desert and I just can’t imagine doing it in summer.
Where we lucked out across Nullarbor, we lost out when we got back to camping, it was blimmin’ cold some nights. 🥶
Most people travelling Aus are in camper/caravans so we did get quite a lot of sympathy haha
One particular moment is pictured.
As we were drying our tent of the dew one morning, a man popped out with the offer of a hot drink.
Knowing we were making a drink in just a few minutes, I wanted to decline.
But I didn’t.
I accepted the drink and it was just what we both needed.
And it was even better for being made by someone else.
Better than that, we stood chatting to the man and his wife and shared stories about our different travels.
A few years ago I learned about the concept “robbing someone of a blessing.”
Every time you reject help or a gift, that’s what you’re doing. I find it really hard to take help a lot of the time, I feel like a burden even for a coffee that’s offered (I know, 🙄.)
The thing is, we all thrive of kindness and acts of love don’t we: giving and receiving it.
After we accepted two hot drinks we had a coffee to warm up, a lovely chat, a story to bless all of you with and I think it’s highly likely they went on to share their story about the two freezing cyclists who they made a cup of tea for 😋
So, next time your reaction is to say no to a small act of kindness, try yes! It’s as much for them as it is for you.
What do you think?
