Today We Cycled To 9,700ft (2,900m)!
The highest we’ve been on the trip so far.
Thankfully the Chinese roads made this feel quite easy. Typically in China the climbs are slow and steady over many miles.
Last night we camped at about 7,500ft, which was the highest we’ve camped.
We stopped pretty early, about 5pm so we could set up camp before the sun went down. It was tempting to keep going as there was a chance we’d find a hotel in 10 miles (16kms), but we couldn’t be sure.
It was very cold last night, the coldest night in the tent so far. We found it quite unpleasant, but bearable.
I think there are two types of people camping in the snow – those who are freezing cold and liars!!! 😜
Maybe we should stop messing with our tent set up, because I keep trying to zip our bags together, but it doesn’t work out…we’ve tried zipping them together twice. Last night we zipped the bags together then stuffed our thermarest sleeping mats inside the sleeping bag.
We’d be warmer if we stayed in our own sleeping bags, but where’s the fun in that!?
We’ve had some lovely views. The roads are mostly clear of ice and snow and the snowy mountains are lovely to look at.
I found it quite surreal today…usually we’d admire the snowy mountains from afar, but now we have the opportunity to riding through them.
