Cold, Beautiful, Magical And Unbearable
What an unbelievable day – cold, beautiful, magical and unbearable. We’ll never forget it – one of the best days of the trip.
I started off with a moan, peeling myself out of a warm bed and ready to face the minus temperatures again.
We cycled uphill until the sun broke through the clouds and suddenly the day turned into one of the best days of the trip. So beautiful.
Stew declared that this was the best road in China, rivalling the first mountain pass near Khorgas. Oh it was beautiful.
At the top of the pass, over 9000ft we prepared to descend into the biting wind. We wore so many clothes we physically couldn’t have added another layer if we tried.
It was cold cold cold coming down that hill, mixed emotions – awe at the beauty and misery in the cold. Anyone cycling that in better weather is in for a real treat 🥰
We’re tucked up in a hotel now – it ain’t the best, but it’s good enough and we are now, finally warm. I can feel my toes again!
As you know we’re cycling for Cardiac Risk In The Young – CRY and this keeps us going! No matter what we are faced with we ride through it and if we can’t ride we sit it out until we can.
It’s not always easy and it’s not always pleasant or comfortable, but we get it done.
If you can spare us a donation we’d be so grateful and super motivated to get this mountain COMPLETED!

Tomorrow we rise at 7:00 to get ahead of the snow and get this bloody mountain behind us! Bring on those warmer temperatures – we’re ready!!!
