The Drivers In Argentina Are Really Bad
The first thing we noticed crossing the border into Argentina was that the overtakes were too close for comfort.
We bought a pool noodle in Mendoza. We found it in a supermarket. It was Stew’s idea.
I can’t tell you how much difference it makes.
We weren’t sure if A) it would help or B) if it would annoy people.
We found people were passing with so much more space for us.
Plus it massively reduces those risky over takes.
People tend to hold back for a minute or two.
Mad what a difference it makes.
Interestingly, with the pool noodle on, people sometimes pass pretty close to that and you just know that they’d be right next to us if we didn’t have it.
Do I feel like a bit of a pain with a pool noodle dangling off my bike… a bit…
Do I feel safer on the road, quite a lot so!
Recommend if you’re feeling the cars are not giving you enough space.
To be fair, once we left Mendoza and started making tracks the roads actually got super quiet. Obviously it’s not needed here, but it’s no bother on the back.
