Taking Care Of The Bikes

Well here it is, at long last – the secret to why our bikes and panniers “look like we left yesterday.”⁣⁣

Maintenance.⁣⁣

We hear it a lot, our panniers look like new and our bikes are in great condition. They look like we left home yesterday despite cycling across 17 countries over 6 months. ⁣

We’ve taken our kit over some rough roads and consistent rain back in Slovenia. ⁣⁣

We swapped out one pannier which was damaged in Stew’s crash in Albania but apart from that major repairs to the bike and kit have not been necessary.⁣⁣

Stew is a superstar when it comes to bike maintenance, he cleans the bikes frequently and checks them over weekly/fortnightly depending on where we are.⁣⁣

If we get stuck out in the rain or mud everything gets washed and wiped down before we turn in for the night. This usually includes emptying the panniers to make sure everything is AOK!⁣⁣

Stew likes to stay close to the bike maintenance and clean the bikes frequently he probably knows every scrape and scratch! This way he can spot early signs of things going wrong. ⁣⁣

I’m more of a glamorous assistant…well, okay a gofer! Stew is definitely the pro and I do what I can to make his life easier.⁣⁣

We want our kit to last 2 years and you can buy the best in the world but it’ll only last if you take care of it. ⁣⁣
