Pizza With Benjamin

There’s a silver lining to be found in nearly all situations!

Here’s an easy one to put a smile on your face…

Last Saturday, Stew and I found a @warmshowers_org home on route, we made tracks to stay with Benjamin and his mother, Elisabeth (pictured).

Benjamin was an absolute sweetheart and a brilliant, natural host!

We spent the evening eating pizza that Benjamin cooked in front of us, he used to be a pizza chef so he definitely knew what we was doing! The toppings were unusual for us, but delicious nonetheless! Actually, a couple days later I found myself thinking about those pizzas as the daily hunger set in.

Benjamin was well travelled. He particularly liked Russia and Canada. He is an independent traveller and enjoys time alone, but he’s definitely a very social being too!

One thing we really liked about spending time with Benjamin and Elisabeth was witnessing their very lovely relationship. They were clearly very close.

As it happened we planned a very short day for Sunday, about 40 miles. This meant we were able to enjoy a very leisurely breakfast and share stories about travel. Benjamin had some good ones, particularly from his experience in China – we listened intently as we’ve got all that to come!

As we were packing away I was reflecting on how great it was for me to “make a mistake” and book such a short day as we were able to enjoy Benjamin and Elisabeth’s company for longer…

Just as we were preparing to go Benjamin asks if we’d like to stay for lunch, of course we said yes!

Elisabeth prepared asparagus followed by lamb and potatoes followed by cheese and strawberries. It was delicious far better than anything I could’ve cooked!!

It dawned on me during lunch that it was Easter Sunday and usually we’d have a family meal. I was happy to spend Easter Sunday 2019 with Benjamin and Elisabeth.

Benjamin is making his way to England in 2020. He’s a very competent and independent traveller, and speaks English very well, but of course we offered our help, should he need it!
