Exploring Croatia
I’ve wanted to visit Croatia for quite some time. Originally we were only passing through , spending a matter of hours here. I’d asked Stew if we could spend more time exploring Croatia, so when we re-routed to cycle Croatia and it’s islands I was thrilled. I’ve not spent a second wishing we’d stuck to our original route.
Marko had warned us that his suggested re-route was hillier than our original plan and I was pretty nervous about that, but I’m pleased to report that the hills have been (mostly) a pleasure to ride, providing us with beautiful views and gorgeous descents.
The coastline is stunning, the most beautiful I’ve seen with clear, gentle ocean waves. You’ve seen on my previous posts that the sea is too stunning to pass up the opportunity to jump in.
We cycled along the coast to finish the day today, 10 miles of the beautiful coastline and even though we were on quite a busy road it did not distract from the peace I felt breathing in the sea air.
I love the coast, especially in the evening as the sun sets and you can make out silhouettes of people on the beach. That’s my favourite time to be at the beach, it’s nostalgic for me. It reminds me of many Welsh-family-holidays where we’d play at the seaside for hours until the sun dropped. Then we’d shower, eat and take an evening stroll enjoying the crisp sea air before returning to our little caravan. As my dad used to say, “this is the life.”
We might be leaving Croatia tomorrow and I’m not sure I’m ready. I LOVE it here, but then I think Bosnia will be a real treat.
