Through The Tunnel Or Over The Mountain?
The gorgeous blue skies and coastal paths are exactly how our day started out. Glorious.
At the bottom of the mountain pictured we had a decision to make…do we cycle through the tunnel, Sveti Ilija or go OVER the mountain!?
We wanted to know if it was safe to take bikes, as the tunnel was 4.25km long. I walked upto the one person around to ask, she didn’t speak any English. I was keen to cycle this tunnel, so it’s typical the one time I could really use an English speaking person I find someone who doesn’t speak any English. Croatians speak very good English.
Anyway, we had a google and found nothing but car crashes in the news etc so we decided to take the mountainous route towards the grey skies.
We passed the one person I’d spoken to, she signalled it was hilly and shook her head, in a nice way! I took it as “rather you than me”. I thanked her for her efforts and appreciated her communication – and we carried on.
We didn’t make it to Bosnia today because It turned out to be really hilly and once we left the coast it rained pretty much all day. It really rained too! The cold, wet rain was lashing down and once we got to the top we were going down an 8% hill and the rain was heavy and lashing into our faces.
We stopped in a bakery who were very kind. Another customer translated for us so we could get WiFi and we enjoyed…and I mean, really enjoyed too many sweet treats and pizza while we booked our accommodation in Imotski.
As soon as we arrived I jumped in the shower then fell asleep for about 2-3 hours! I’ve just noticed my stories hadn’t uploaded (sorry!!).
I’m writing this post then going to bed! I’m so tired because last nights apartment was next to a pub and the locals sang loudly until 1am! Part of me was frustrated, the other part of me wished I was in there with them, 6 pints of lager and 3 jäger bombs into a wild night 😜
The plan stays the same, we are planning to head into Bosnia tomorrow and stay in Mostar with a view of exploring nearby waterfalls.
