A Day Of Kind Strangers
As the storm passed yesterday, Stew and I ordered lunch.
Stew had a sweet and sour chicken and I ordered what I thought was a curried dish with an egg (picture two).
As I ordered it the waiter paused. He said I was ordering a dish with “egg gravy”.
“Do you still want this or something more…”
I guessed he wanted to say familiar but his sentence tailed off.
Admittedly, to my English brain, egg gravy did feel a bit weird and now the waiter was alluding that I might not like it, I thought to switch my meal. But where’s the fun in that?
I tried the “egg gravy” dish and from the first mouthful I was very glad I did! It was 😋😋 tofu and veggies were fried in egg, but the cooking stops before the egg is fully cooked/scrambled. Kinda like a half cooked egg.
We also tried a cup of hot milo (pic 3) which is just chocolate, malted drink (Ovaltine) which is what I expected but it’s heavily advertised and everywhere in Malaysia so we wanted to get involved. In Malaysia, Milo is served with or without milk and you can get it hot or iced in most places.
As we finished our meal, the waiter came over and said our bill was paid by the man in the first picture. I had to ask three times what he said as I thought I must be hearing him incorrectly.
From the minute we walked in, the man pictured, named Loh, and his family were very interested in our adventure. He took pictures and a video of us. We answered all his questions. I wonder where the video will end up 😆.
Earlier that day we called into a small cafe on the roadside for iced water and the woman who served us kindly gave us that for free, too.
