You Should Pack A Bike And Ride As Far As You Can

If you’re in your twenties, you should pack a bike and ride as far as you can.

Throw in the towel on your job and just do it.

You’ll have to make sacrifices to do it. You’ll think, “I can’t save, not on your wage.’ But, the truth is, if you’re capable of working and you live in the UK, you can.

– don’t buy anything you don’t need
– eat discounted food
– move in with someone
– save something simple you splurge on, for joy (for us it was date nights)
– do not to enter a phone contract
– don’t buy *anything* you can’t afford outright. I drove cars costing £100 – £750 since I was 16.
– wear the same dress to all the parties and events, no one cares.
– get a second job, it might be fun!

It can feel like a lot. I was absolutely sick of pork, rice and frozen veg before our trip, but it was cheap 🤷🏻‍♀️.

The thing is, the sacrifice above gives you a:

🚲 true exploration of the world around you
🚲 chance to face your prejudice
🚲 new perspective on life as you know it

Best of all, international cycling is like whacking a big, red stop button 🛑✋🏼

You reclaim your life back, ripping it from the hands of the rat race that we all fall victim to.

When you take proper time away from work you get to meet you again, and think again about what you want.

We left England in 2019. I was 28. The last time I stopped and thought seriously about the construction of my own life was when I was maybe 15.

Ironically, time out of work catapulted my career in ways I never expected. I got more out of everything by taking time away.

It almost doesn’t make sense.

Time out of work is a luxury not encouraged in the UK, but it is in some countries (a la France’s sabbatical).

What I’m trying to say is that life is not so unforgiving that time away from the place of work will mess up your life. But, the general narrative would not help you to believe it.

At least, this has been my experience.
