We’ve Been In China For Almost 2 Months Now
China is full of surprises and each province has something new to offer. A couple days ago we entered Sichuan and waved goodbye to Gansu; a province that had provided such a relief from the politics of Xinjiang.
The landscapes of China have continued to amaze. The rolling roads are a delight to cycle and the road condition is as good as ever.
Cycling is a pleasure again and the mountains leave us in awe.
Stew has now declared for the third time, “this is the best road in China.” Stew is in his element and because of this I find myself catching up with him frequently as he stops so often to take pictures.
The food has changed, and oh, the food.
Food in China is always good, it’s absolutely abundant with little cafes dominating the streets. It’s cheap too!
Over the last couple of days we’ve found ourselves seeking out the more up market places because hotels have become super cheap. We can splurge a little more on a meal now. It’s a nice treat, it feels like a date night, except no ones made an effort with clothes or hair or make up, but what does it matter?
Along with the prices dropping in hotels, so have the standard, but on the whole, that’s okay for us.
At the moment we’re mostly just happy to get a roof over our head.
Tonight we’ve booked ourselves a fancy hotel. We felt we needed it. We hoped to get to a washing machine, but no such luck, so clothes are soaking in the sink. Later we’ll hang them around the room then sink into a huge comfy, soft bed – you don’t get many of those in China.
We’re content again now and the trip is a joy; an adventure and the greatest experience of our lives. Just as we always intended it.
