West Highland Way – Day 3
Leading with this picture of me with very rosy cheeks is totally appropriate for the day.
It wasn’t hilly at all, yet at 9.5 miles I looked like this! Bright red cheeks and oh I was so tired.
We’d tackled nature’s obstacle course today. A few people on Instagram and Facebook had warned that “day 2 gets tricky” I can only assume that their day 2 was our day 3 and oh it was tricky.
We went under fallen trees, over them, climbed over boulders and navigated a challenging terrain. People ahead offered help to hold walking sticks and bags so strangers could get over obstacles and we passed each other uttering “tough day” and a knowing glance.
On the flip side it was pretty fabulous with stunning mountain views, waterfalls, my first ever bothie, which bought a lot of joy, majestic woodland walks and a shower; the first one after 44 miles and 3 days. That should somewhat-reset us for the hike tomorrow.
We’re on a campsite tonight and the meals are just the big-comfort-food you need after a hike! Burgers for Stew and Mac n Cheese for me!
Tomorrow they’ve even got breakfast sandwiches 😋 might give the midge-porridge a miss for that!
I don’t think I’ve done the joy of today justice, but I’m super tired tonight so posting this and sleeping! Catch you all tomorrow 💙
