We Need To Stop, I’m Going To Be Sick!
Remember when I said some bike rides are miserable?
Yesterday we were making our way to Lyon. We were happy to be back in the hills! We had the joy of a 10 mile descent! The sun was shining, it was a great day.
By the evening we started to feel a bit peaky! We carried on: it had been a long day; the hills are back; maybe we haven’t drank enough; it’s hot…let’s just get to Lyon and enjoy a day off!
Eventually I said Stew…”I’ve got to stop and be sick, whatever is in my stomach has to come out.”
We pulled over and I was very sick. Stew was in exactly the same state!
We got back on the bike 2 miles later I pulled in, Stew’s confused “where are you going?!” I was at the side of the road being sick before I could even get off my bike.
Another mile he gets off his bike says he’s going to pass out and sits down. Within half an hour we are in a bad way!
We decide we simply can’t go to the home we are staying in! For one we can’t physically ride there and secondly we can’t take this into a house with kids! We find the nearest hotel for the night £100. 2.5 days budget. We decided to stay in the hotel for 2 nights while we ride this out!
Picture this – I’m trying to book the hotel using my best GCSE French, my heads pounding and my vision is going black/blurry, you know when you’re about to pass out. The lovely receptionist was taking what felt like ages to do the exchange I thought they won’t let us stay if I’m sick.
Hold it. Together. Zoe.
My body starts getting hot. I take my jacket off. I know I’m acting weird. I’m about to throw up. In the quietest whisper I manage to say “merci” as the receptionist hands me the key.
Stews outside struggling with the exact same problems. I feel bad leaving him, but my next word to the receptionist “toilette?”.
We finally get upstairs Stew’s in the toilet – I’m in the sink. Awful. Suspected food poisoning.
Our temperature was up, we couldn’t drink a single drop of water all night.
By 3pm we finally make it outside for supplies – food and water.
I’m 28, Stew’s 30 – we missed home today and we missed our mums!
On the brighter(ish) side I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather be this poorly with!
