New Friends In Lyon, France
Things are really looking up for us after we were unwell! We stayed in Lyon last night with Patrick and Claire , a lovely couple! We are with them again tonight and looking forward to another pleasant evening.
I’m sure I’ve said before that we were connected by their cousin, Luc who we met in Arras.
Patrick and Claire have been amazing!! We’ve had a place to rest, a shower, we’ve been able to wash our clothes and they very kindly cooked for us too!
On Claire’s advice we went to the Notre Dame in Lyon and visited Old Lyon which was beautiful – you can see from the stories! We had no expectations of what we’d find in Lyon and it’s been beautiful. Lovely architecture and gardens which we walked around. Some stunning views too!
Claire is brilliant with languages and speaks 3! French and German she speaks fluently and plenty of English!
I don’t know how the French do it…the language skill is much higher than ours. Claire and I learnt French / English in school for the same time, for me more recently but Claire’s skill level is waaaay higher than mine!
It’s genuinely fascinating me!
Maybe I was just a bad languages student but my feelings are hardly any of my English peers could manage as well in French as the French do with English.
Maybe in France there’s quite an onus or importance on the language subjects?
Maybe it’s just because the French are more surrounded with English by with translations being all over and English music etc…
anyone got any thoughts?? 😁
I’m going to learn a second language. I’m going to do it! @ Lyon, France
