Today Was A Beautiful Day, A Perfect Day For Cycling
Pleased to report it was much better than yesterday! Beautiful blue skies again, with a nice breeze…maybe the head wind was a bit strong at times, but we’ll take that!
We bumped into some bike packers travelling all the way across euro velo 6, Voyager autrement sur l’euro 6. Like us their journey started on 31st March. They are cycling 3653 kms and camping! They are much braver than us, we are waiting for warmer nights. Nadine and Philippe will travel through France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania where they will end their journey at the black sea. Throughout France they are joined by a friend. We met all 3 of them today.
Also pictured in this album are our Airbnb hosts from last night. Tonight we stayed with French hosts again who have been incredibly hospitable! The shops close early on Sunday, earlier than in the UK – we were nearly left with spaghetti, jam and nuts for dinner but our Airbnb host kindly prepared food for us and we ate together.
We love sitting with our hosts and eating with them. We especially love having conversations with the people we meet along the way. Stew and I both have a very small pool of words we can speak and understand in French. What makes the conversation so special is the commitment from each person to try and understand the other. Using a French / English hybrid of language (Frenglish) we usually manage the conversations…just about! 🙂
It’s inspiring to converse the French, they know a lot more English than we do French and many hold a conversation well! It makes sense in some ways, but everyday I think about how much I would love to learn a second language. @ France
