This Is George!

A lovely cyclist who we met yesterday. George was a ray of sunshine in our day – and we had surprising connections to this Romanian cyclist!

George started this cycling trip from Cyprus. He’d done a lot of travelling by bicycle over the years and now enjoyed to travel slowly and steadily. He takes advantage of the present day, stopping wherever and whenever he likes! He laughed when he saw our triple chain ring as he travels so gently that he hardly uses his second one!

Recently George had been enjoying Georgia and all of its glory, spending at least a couple months there – enjoying the culture, the country and learning the language.

Unlike us George camped almost every night, using a hotel when he really craved a shower!

Typically when you meet someone for the first time you tell them where you’re from. Well Stew and I always tell people we’re from Birmingham because it’s likely people know the city, whereas Shropshire is unknown to most people in this part of the world. When George found out we were “from Birmingham” he started to tell us how his sister was near there, working as an NHS Dentist. She worked in Telford! Well our jaws hit the floor! That is where Stew’s mum lives and where we started our circumnavigation. It turns out that George was very familiar with Shropshire, he’d visited before and knew Shrewsbury and lovely Ludlow aswell!

We wish George the very best on his cycling trip and we look forward to seeing him in Shropshire one day for bike rides and cake!
