Reflecting On The Last 6 Months
6 months ago today we left Stew’s mums home in Telford and started an epic bike ride!
We’re now in Kazakhstan, moving towards China and reflecting on the last 6 months and all the wonderful cultures we’ve experienced.
We write a list of things we particularly like about different places. We’ve visited 18 countries now, and it’s been wonderful to see how different countries and cultures do things.
Here are some things we want to take home to England with us:
🇫🇷 Pace meals like the French & eat the finest breads, wine and cheeses. From our experience French people ate the finer foods, but ate less of it.
🇧🇬 Eat yoghurt! Bulgarians are so proud of their yoghurt – and so they should be! Bulgarian yoghurt has a special bacteria. Whilst we might not be able to get this – we’ve loved consuming more yoghurt on this trip.
🚽Get a bidet! Why don’t we use these in the UK!? I’m a fan! 🍑
🇹🇷 The beautiful hospitality of Turkey can not be undervalued. We were treated so wonderfully, invited to share food and tea everywhere we went. We want to be more hospitable when we go home.
🇺🇿 Uzbek’s know how to celebrate a wedding! They invite 500+ guests and party for 1 week! Ok that’s not really possible in the UK, but I love their heart for celebration. We want more of that.
🌱 Experiment more with foods – eat more greens, try new fruits, veggies, seeds and nuts.
🌍 We’ve been inspired by so much cuisine – we want to bake Slovenian cake – Potina, cook Plov, make our own Ayran, cook Georgian Lobio, Azerbaijani marappa and so much more…so much more!
🤝 Offer assistance if someone looks confused in the street.
🍜 In Asia they have the Turpac or as I call them, “double-bed-tables” or princess beds. 🤣 Anyway, in Asia we were introduced to dining, sat on a platform, eating on a low table. We loved it.
It was really hard not to write an entire list on food – because I do have one of those, but I thought this might be more interesting!
What have you experienced on the road that you want to take home with you? @ Samarkand
