Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
A brilliant day in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
With an epic 95miles under our belt from yesterday we were ahead of schedule. This allowed us to have a full day exploring Plovdiv, rather than a half day as planned.
We made good use of the day, sleeping until 08:30 then heading out to join a free walking tour with Free Plovdiv Tour . We explored the city with a knowledgeable guide and ended the tour in the old town.
We got talking to Sofia and Scott pictured. Like us they’re travelling on a budget and exploring the world. Sofia and Scott are from Australia and New Zealand. They’re currently exploring the Balkans and travelling towards the UK.
We were all hungry so we made tracks to a restaurant together. The restaurant, Pavaj in the Kapana district came recommended by Sofia and Scott’s hostel and as it happens a Norwegian couple on the tour had also told us about it, so we had to go!.
We were very lucky to get a table and after a feast of very delicious meatballs, horse sausages (yes, that’s right!) and salads (seriously good salads) we sat in the restaurant sharing stories about our travels. We realised after sometime that the stories we swapped were mostly about the wonderful encounters we’ve had with people, kindness & culture and less about landmarks or places.
When we think back to Plovdiv we will surely remember the fastest 4 hours sat in a restaurant sharing stories with strangers. Thank you Sofia and Scott for making our day what it was.
