Meet Our Fellow Caspian Sea Travellers
Meet the fellow travellers who made our Caspian Sea experience what it was.
Pictured you can see Aurelie, Feli, me, Stew, Adrien and Maëlys.
You can spend a lot of time with other travellers as you wait to cross the Caspian Sea. The wait time for the ferry can very from a few hours to days. We had to wait about 1.5 days then once you board the ferry all you have for entertainment are the people around you. No WiFi, no television, not even a shop to explore. Just you and the Caspian.
We were lucky to meet a great group of people.
First we met Adrien at the port on the second day. We shared what we knew with each other and later we became acquainted with Adrien’s girlfriend, Maëlys. We spent quite a bit of time with these guys, chatting and killing time as we waited for the ferry. The four of us also stayed in the waiting room for 1 night. Adrien and Maëlys were hitch hiking from France. We had a lot of respect for them both, but we were particularly impressed with Adrien and his language skills. Adrien and Maëlys are both French and they both speak fluent English. Adrien also got by very well with Russian which will serve him well. On top of this Adrien remembered the names of foods and dishes he’d tried in the local language which really impressed us! They had clearly immersed themselves in the culture of the country they visited.
Aurelie was the only other cyclist on the boat. Like us she started her trip in March and like us she had to rest up for 2 weeks in Azerbaijan as she was knocked off her bike shortly after crossing the border. Aurelie, Adrien and Maëlys were all from the same city in France and met for the first time at the ferry port! Aurelie had cycled from France and she will continue to China via the Pamir Highway.
Finally we met Feli for the first time on the ferry. Feli was hitch hiking and had travelled from Germany. Before we met Feli she had been sharing a car with some English travellers who I spoke to very briefly before we boarded the ferry.
I thoroughly enjoyed time with these guys and felt sad to part ways, but we hope to catch up with Adrien and Maëlys in New Zealand. 🤞🏼
