Life Is Long, But The Moments Are Fleeting, Aren’t They?⁣⁣

In 3 months we cycled 5,150kms in China and experienced 4 different provinces – Xinjiang, Gansu, Sichuan and Yunnan. ⁣⁣

China is a country that will leave you in awe. ⁣⁣

The mountain views are breathtaking, especially the snowy tops. The roads are perfect for cycling. The traditional architecture is as beautiful as it looks and the changing landscapes, weather, food and cultures will keep your attention for as long as you can stay. ⁣⁣

There’s never a dull moment, each province is unique – it feels like we experienced 4 countries in 1.⁣⁣

From the day we arrived I felt I couldn’t take it all in. There wasn’t enough time in a day – even by bicycle to absorb all of China. It’s over-stimulating in many ways. Streets smell like Chinese food constantly, every few buildings is an eatery. Scooters and cars beep and if that isn’t enough stores project their offers via a megaphone. The music plays loudly and every evening people come together to dance/exercise in the streets.⁣⁣

China is unlike any place on earth. ⁣⁣

I found myself questioning my time in China. It went too fast, 3 months by bicycle went too fast – is that even possible?⁣⁣

I wondered if I took in enough? Did I experience enough? Did I see enough? ⁣⁣

There’s only so much you can absorb in such a busy place. Sometimes you have to just trust that you were there, you were present and you did experience as much as you possibly could. ⁣⁣

The moments in life are fleeting and we have to seize the opportunities as they present themselves.⁣⁣

Would I cycle through China again? Not for love nor money!⁣⁣

Do I think you should do it? YES! Cycle it and cycle it all, feel the difficulty of Xinjiang, the changing landscapes of Gansu, the delicious food of Sichuan and the mountains in Yunnan.⁣⁣

Would I return to China? Undoubtably. I’d love to revisit some of the places we’ve already seen, but what I’d really love to do is take a flight to the east coast. I want to see THAT China – the one that has the 1.4 billion people! I want to immerse myself in that noise, that crowd, that culture. ⁣⁣
