Cycling Outer Hebrides Kit List – Bags & Luggage
Below we have detailed the bags, panniers and luggage equipment we carried on our Hebridean bike tour.
Disclaimer: We present this kit list to you as a guide line, This is by no means the definitie kit list for bike touring. We recommed using this a guide only, because every tour is different, You should always adjust and refine your own kit list to meet the needs and requirements of your tour.
Stewart’s Bags
I used a max of panniers and bike packing bags as I don’t like how front panniers feel. I opted for a small handlebar bag, large saddle bag and a frame bag.
The frame bag was used to carry anything I need while riding, my most commonly used tools and the tent poles as these were too long to fit inside the panniers.
If you’re considering a frame bag make sure your bike is big enough, I ride a large frame and it fits niceley but any smaller and I think it would be difficult to use it. It’s also worth mentioning that it does limit how much space you have for water bottles.

Zoe’s Bags
Zoe had to go for the classic 4 pannier setup because her bike was too small for bike packing bags. Her frame was too small to take a frame bag within the main triangle, her handlebars were to narrow to take a handlebar bag and a saddle bag would have prevented use of the top of her rear pannier rack.

We also carried a small backpack for days out and a large swimming mesh bag that we could quickly bundle all of our kit into when moving into a hotel.
