A Lovely Guesthouse Host In Cambodia

Recently we stayed at a guesthouse in Cambodia. It was recommended by our friends.

When we turned up we were so hot and ready to relax. The host was lovely. She showed us our room then invited us for a dinner. I wanted to check the price before but she didn’t offer me one, instead she said “it’s very simple food.” I didn’t mind what it was of course I just wanted to check the price 😋

Anyway, I decided, it’ll be alright! We will be able to afford it with what we had in our wallet.

Dinner was delicious, fried vegetables and rice, fried aubergine which was perfection and scrambled eggs. The best eggs I ever ate!

Over dinner, we talked a lot. We shared pictures and talked about our families, she had three children who were privately educated. Her son liked football and shared some footballer names with Stewart later in the evening.

While we were sat eating, the electricity went off then turned on again a few moments later. A common occurrence here.

As the little geckos ran across the walls we shared some photos of our home, sharing the snow on the Scottish mountains. We lived in Scotland the year and a half before the trip. She asked how we kept our bodies warm and we showed her the fire indoors.

She said, almost knowingly, “your families come and sit together”. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that actually we heat individual homes most of the time and we perhaps a bit too comfortable isolated within the fall walls of our own place.

We showed her a picture of my mums dog – the most loved dog in the world 😄 and she asked, “don’t your dogs bite you?”

She had a dog but she has to lock him away when she has guests because they bite. One of the village children had to have three jabs recently after a bite. Assuming they were protected against rabies.

It was a lovely afternoon sharing stories and being looked after by a lovely host. We slept well and the next we we rode our bikes, of course! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️
