Sydney, Australia
We really liked Sydney! Due to our admin error when booking flights we ended up with just three or four nights in Sydney and in that time we had to explore the city, pack down the bikes and visit some lovely friends!
Just wait to see who we met in Sydney (next post) 🥁
The cycling days leading up to Sydney were such a lot that I ended up in bed the first day with a really bad migraine that lasted most the day. Stew was left to pack and unpack the bikes entirely by himself.
He had to trek up town and physically carried two massive boxes back to the hotel aswell. There just wasn’t time otherwise.
I could not believe it when I opened the door to find he’d wrestled those assembled bike boxes miles back to our hotel.
We had just one day to actually explore the city which was enough I feel. Naturally, more would’ve been better but you make the best of what you’ve got, don’t you?
We had other meetings planned in Sydney but had to cancel them, as well as meetings in Melbourne. That was a bit disappointing, but hey, that’s cycle touring and sometimes shit just doesn’t go to plan lol
On our tourist day we got out to the city and visited the Opera House. Now that’s cool!
We walked around the gardens nearby, went for lunch where someone was celebrating a wedding or something, they flew a plane over Sydney Opera House and the plan did some sky writing, “I <3 U… YL <3 JJ” was ‘written’ in the sky.Within the blink of an eye our Aussie adventures were over. We couldn’t quite believe that 81 days ago we’d landed in a wet, wet Perth ready to start our bike ride across the biggest country on our trip. Time is funny, isn't it? While you’re living it, it feels slow or steady at best. But then you look back at what you’ve done and it’s gone like a flash. It makes me realise how important it is live life to its fullest because I just know that one day I’m going to wake up and be 80 and my entire life will feel like a flash.
