Georgian Cuisine & Wonderful Hosts
Our 2 nights in Butami were a perfect introduction to Georgia and Georgian cuisine.
We booked an Airbnb, expecting a place to ourselves, but ended up staying with a Georgian family in their home. The home was listed incorrectly on Airbnb, but the moment we walked through the door we couldn’t have been happier.
Giorgi, a 19 year old student and barman introduced us to his family. He was studying to be a captain and spoke English very well.
On arrival Giorgi’s mother laid out a delicious spread of fruits and we had our first Georgian coffee. We were offered dinner and of course we eagerly accepted; we’d arrived in Georgia with no cash so until this point we were expecting dinner to be quite disappointing.
The food was just delicious, we tried lobio which is like a bean stew with beans, coriander, garlic and onion in a delicious sauce. This was served with salad and bread. We also enjoyed a glass of champagne.
Giorgi explained that his family is a typical Georgian family, his sister concurred: “we are relaxed – make yourself at home.” If we are lucky enough to meet people as good as this family, I have no doubt that our stay in Georgia will be very special.
During the day we strolled around Batumi enjoying Georgia and figuring out what it had to offer.
My favourite part of the day was visiting the restaurant Giorgi works in, The Heart of Batumi. I highly recommend, it – just look at our fantastic meals!
All of the food here is traditional Georgian food. The service is great, the price is right and the food and wine is just delicious! If you’re heading to Batumi – you should call by at The Heart of Batumi and if Airbnb is your thing we highly recommend a stop with Giorgi and his family.
