John O’ Groats to Lands End – The Route
John O’ Groats to Lands End – The RouteMarch
While planning my John O’ Groats to Lands End ride I decided that I wanted to follow the west coast as closely as possible. To make sure I achieved this I set about hand crafting a 2,500 route that made use of as many coastal roads as possible. It would have been really great if google maps had a feature to map out the scenic route for you but sadly it doesn’t. I spent about 1 and a half months mapping out the route and a further 1 month refining and improving the accuracy of the route. The route is extremely accurate and in most cases was mapped at only a few hundred feet of elevation in Google Earth.
Below I have included download links to my route along with hundreds of marker pins detailing cycle routes and places to visit. Feel free to take a copy for yourself, I hope some of you will find them useful for mapping out your own adventure.
This is a kml file containing the full route in 1 single file.
This is a kml package containing the full route and all of note pins. The pins represent all cycles paths used, places to visit and directions for where to turn.
A collection of pins separated into individual files. You can transfer the files straight onto your GPS unit and see the appropriate notes as you travel.
My GPS can only display a limited number of way points on a single track and the full route is far to long to be displayed so I cut the full route down into 7 smaller sections. After reaching the end of a section simply load up the next one on your GPS unit.
